Heather Durrant, a recent graduate of Elgin High in Illinois and representing the Elgin Sharks, earned a silver medal for the United States in the women's 10,000-meter race walk in 50:02.61 at the Pan American U20 Championships at Jose A. Figueroa Freire Stadium in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico. Durrant, who has committed to NAIA University of the Cumberlands in Kentucky, became the first American female athlete to medal in the 10,000-meter race walk since Lauren Forgues also captured silver in 2007 in Brazil.
